Hiring a van can make life much easier, whether you are moving house, collecting furniture, or running a business.

At Trott Rentals in Norwich we keep things straightforward with clear pricing, unlimited mileage and insurance included as standard. All of our vans are modern, reliable and fitted with features that make long or short journeys more comfortable.

By knowing what each van can do and how much it costs, you can make the right choice for your journey.

Understanding the different vans available

Not every job needs the same size van. Some people just need a small vehicle to carry boxes or tools, while others need the biggest van possible for a house move. At Trott Rentals we provide a wide range of vans, each with its own strengths.

Small vans for light loads

A small van is ideal for jobs like local deliveries or transporting a few items that do not fit in a car. With two front seats and double rear doors, it is easy to load and simple to drive. The maximum payload is 750 kilograms.

Prices start from £35 per day for private rental or £20 per day for corporate rental.

Medium vans for everyday use

Medium vans are the familiar panel vans you often see on the road. They are a popular choice for people moving furniture or businesses that need space for equipment. With three seats in the cab, rear doors and a side loading door, they offer flexibility. The maximum payload is 900 kilograms.

Prices start from £40 per day for private rental or £25 per day for corporate rental.

Extra large vans for bigger moves

When you need more space, an extra large van provides a long wheelbase and high roof. This makes it useful for office moves or carrying large goods. It seats three people in the cab and has a payload of 1,100 kilograms.

Prices start from £50 per day for private rental or £35 per day for corporate rental.

Super large vans for maximum capacity

Super large vans are designed for when the job is just too big for anything else under 3.5 tonnes. With over 4.8 metres of load space and room for three people in the cab, it gives you the capacity you need for bulky items. The maximum payload is 1,000 kilograms.

Prices start from £55 per day for private rental or £35 per day for corporate rental.

Luton vans with tail lifts for removals

The Luton van is one of the most popular choices for moving house. The box body gives plenty of space with no wheel arches to get in the way, and the tail lift makes it easier to load heavy furniture or appliances. It seats three people at the front and has a payload of 1,000 kilograms.

Prices start from £75 per day for private rental or £40 per day for corporate rental.

What to expect when hiring a van

Hiring a van is not just about choosing the size. It also helps to understand what is included, what documents you need, and how insurance works. This ensures your hire runs smoothly from start to finish.

Insurance cover

All van hires at Trott Rentals include insurance in the price. You do not need to arrange this separately. The insurance excess varies by age:

  • Drivers aged 25 and over have a standard excess of £1,000. This can be reduced to £500 with a collision damage waiver, which costs between £5 and £10 depending on the length of hire.
  • Drivers aged between 21 and 24 have a standard excess of £1,500. With a collision damage waiver this can be reduced to £1,000.

If you have penalty points or have recently been involved in an accident, you must let us know as this may affect cover.

Driving licence and age rules

To hire a van you need a full UK or EU driving licence.

  • The minimum age is 21
  • The maximum age is 75
  • Drivers aged 21–24 must have held their licence for at least 2 years
  • Drivers aged 25 and over must have held their licence for at least 1 year

All of our vans up to 3.5 tonnes can be driven with a standard Category B car licence. If you passed your driving test before 1 January 1997, you may have C1 entitlement on your licence which allows you to drive 7.5 tonne vehicles.

Documents to bring

When collecting your van you will need to bring:

  • Your photocard driving licence
  • A DVLA licence check code from gov.uk/view-driving-licence
  • Two forms of ID such as a passport, utility bill or bank statement dated within the last three months

You can also add up to three named drivers at no extra cost. Each driver must bring the same documents.

Deposits and payments

We do not take a deposit. Payment is made by Visa or Mastercard. Cash payments are not accepted.

Cancellation policy

If your booking is cancelled up to 72 hours before collection there is no charge. If cancelled later, the hire charge will apply in full.

Why corporate rental rates are lower

You may notice that our corporate rental rates are cheaper than private hire. The reason is simple. Businesses usually hire vans for longer periods, sometimes weeks or even months at a time. This gives us steady bookings, so we can pass on lower daily prices.

Corporate customers also tend to hire more than one vehicle or return to us regularly, which means we can offer them discounted rates. Setting up an account makes the process quicker too, with less paperwork for each booking.

Private customers still benefit from competitive prices, unlimited mileage, and insurance included, but business users get extra savings because of the way they hire and use vans.

Making the most of your hire van

Once you know which van you need and the hire details are sorted, it helps to think about how you will use it. A van is larger than a car and may feel different to drive, but a little preparation makes the experience straightforward.

Adjusting to the size

Whether you choose a medium van or a Luton with a tail lift, the driving position will feel higher than a car. Mirrors cover a wider angle, and the length means corners should be taken a little wider. Taking a few minutes to get comfortable with the controls before you set off makes a big difference.

Loading safely

Vans can carry a lot of weight, but it is important to load carefully. Place heavier items at the bottom and spread the weight evenly. Secure loads with straps if possible so nothing shifts during your journey. If you are using a Luton van, the tail lift will help when lifting heavy items.

Long journeys

If you are travelling further afield, take regular breaks. Our vans include unlimited mileage so you do not need to worry about distance.

Overseas use

If you need to take your hire van abroad, this is possible. Please contact us in advance so we can arrange the correct overseas cover.
